Bio

Research Interests: Spanish Phonology and Phonetics, Sociolinguistics, History of the Spanish Language, Applied Linguistics and Teaching Methodology, Teaching Methodology of Spanish as Heritage Language, Second Language Acquisition, Romance Languages, Mexican Literature and Culture.

Brief Testimonial: I got a Ph.D. degree in Hispanic Linguistics with an Emphasis in Applied Linguistics. I am teaching at Pacific University since 2008. I teach First and Second Year of Spanish Language classes (Introductory Spanish, and Intermediate Spanish). I have taught other courses such as An Introduction to Latin American and Peninsular Spanish Literature; Advanced Grammar and Composition: Mexican Literature, Culture and Films; and Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics. At Portland State University, I teach Spanish Phonetics and Phonology, Spanish Advanced Grammar and Composition, and Spanish for Heritage Learners. The research paper I did for the Emphasis in Applied Linguistics titled “Epéntesis de la deslizada [j]: análisis del fenómeno en el español como L1 y L2,” helped me obtain my position at PSU in 2009. My Advisors were Prof. Timothy McGovern, Prof. Dorothy Chun, and Prof. Viola Miglio.
